  Bamboo is an interesting specimen. It bends without breaking and provides food and shelter for more than half the population of the world. It has been used to create weapons of war as well as medicines that heal. There is no safer place to be than in a bamboo grove during an earthquake. You may find it interesting that when the atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, bamboo was the first plant to turn green again.
